Active Ingredients

The volatile oil is the active part of the medicinal herb Atractylodes Rhizoma. The volatile oil contains about 40 kinds of weakly polar chemical components, and the content of atractylodes is as high as 61%. Atractylodes ketone is unstable and prone to oxidative decomposition when exposed to light and heating. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GS-MS) chromatograms before and after decomposition are obviously different. Atractylodes ketone, β-eucalyptol, atractylide Ⅰ, atractylide Ⅲ and elemene in the volatile oil have antitumor effects. The extraction methods of volatile oil mainly include steam distillation, solvent extraction, pressing and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SPE).
